11.08.23 - Cheeky South Wales Tour
508 miles
15:4 ride time
Heading out to the south for a mini tour, trying to take in some of our favourite roads. From Newtown, we turned right and headed toward Rhayader and then up to the reservoirs of the Elan Valley. Doubling back to Rhayader, turning right to go down to Llandovery and then to our hotel for the next couple of nights, which was just located outside Lampeter.
Lunch time (obviously) as Mrs C never stops talking about lunch all the way down 👩😂
Shimmers Coffee House and Eatery in Llanidloes.
The Elan Valley - we went straight in and straight out this time. You can ride the whole loop, but we were travelling south so popped in, took a few photos and popped out...
We stopped at The Falcondale Hotel in Lampeter. A very beautiful hotel, with stunning views from our front windows. Deffo need to stay in this place again.
It was a great little find, not too expensive and the food was superb!
The next day we enjoyed a day out to the south and south west, stopping in Tenby to have a look at the 1st place P ever stayed away as a child...It was exactly as remembered on the front, looking toward the sea, with the big rock in the middle and the life boat launch to the right. It looked smaller than remembered, but did evoke memories of parents and playing "Zippy" on the beach (which was a form of tennis with big plastic bats.)
Across to St David's and up the coats road through Fishguard to New Quay for lunch.
Stopping at The Bluebell Deli & Bistro New Quay
New Quay is always busy and today was no exception - 100's of people, but lovely lunch and a pint!
We headed back to Lampeter to enjoy smoother night at The Falcondale, before heading home the next day. We were going to have another long day, making our way up to Betws-y-coed right along the coast road, through Tywyn, Barmouth and Harlech.
Little pit stop for Ice cream in Aberaron before heading up to Aberyswyth. Conditions were a bit wet today, with constant rain all day, but certainly never dampens our spirits and it's actually fun to ride in the wet anyway, so no worries.
This is our usual spot to park, right on the front where usually there's loads of bikes meeting up. Coffee in the Prom Diner, run by students!
Lunch at Coffee #1 Aberyswyth
This trip was a spur of the moment decision and it turned out to be a wonderful couple of days. Many beers obviously, but some great food, lovely hotel and the roads were perfect for riding, wet or dry. We have done these roads a lot, but you never get tired of them and it's a privilege to be able to ride around our country, through mountains, coastal roads, beautiful scenery etc etc etc....all in the same day!
